Carved Coral Vase

This vase is made with a blend of three clays and is hand carved to resemble a deep water coral. Each of these carved out regions is glazed in one of three colours. This diversity in clay and colours was chosen to resemble the microscopic diversity that supports healthy coral reefs. Finally, there is band of white at the top which has different appearances based on the underlying clay and this is to draw attention to the process of coral bleaching under climate change – the subject of some of my research.
